The engobe technique in ceramics used in case we want to change the colour of the ceramic piece. As we want to change the colour of one ceramic,we decide what colour and how many layers we will pour this ceramic.When we want want to pour with engobe, the ceramic should be neither too dry nor too fresh.Then we pour with engobe the piece and we put it in the oven and thus changes the exterior colour. Then we can paint it normally as if nothing has changed and baked in the oven or we can glazing it without any problem.
Many times we go through a layer, sometimes two, and other times through two different colours of engobe.As we want to change the colour of one piece then the use of engobe is one way road,otherwise the only colour that we can have is the natural colour of the clay. (With the exception of the whole painting ).
